Flash Mob rehearsal - Pride 2022

Flash Mob rehearsal - Pride 2022

Aug 20, 3:30pm - Aug 20, 4:30pm

Cambridge ParkGuernsey, Map

Back in 2020 Alix Coubrough-Barnett choreographed an amazing routine to ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ that was then performed in Market Square as a flashmob!

So, this year, Alix and Chloe have taken on choreographing a routine for anybody to learn and perform as a flash mob once again. (We promise it’s not going to be too tricky!)

The rehearsal will be held at Cambridge Park from 15:30-16:30 on 20th August. Anybody and everybody can rock up on the day and learn the routine!

It’ll be as simple as when the track plays from the Pride main stage in Market Square, we flash mob! There will be people to follow on stage too so don’t worry!

Pride LGBTQ+ Cult Classic Movie Night

Pride LGBTQ+ Cult Classic Movie Night

Sep 5, 6:00pm

The Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts

Join us on the Monday after CIPride in Guernsey for a double bill of LGBTQ+ cult classics.

First up is the new Directors Cut of comedy ‘But I’m a Cheerleader’ followed by the seminal documentary Paris is Burning!

**Tickets are £4.50 per film showing
You can book for one or both. Please select from the pricing sections the number of seat(s) you want for each performance**

If you don’t know anything about the films keep reading…

‘But I’m A Cheerleader’ - SHOWING AT 6PM
has an all star LGBTQ+ cast that now reads like the ‘who’s who’ of queer TV and film (but before they were famous)! Including Clea DuVall, Ru Paul and Natasha Lyonne!
‘Cheerleading-obsessed teenager is sent to a strict summer camp when her parents suspect her of being a lesbian.
Megan (Natasha Lyonne) considers herself a typical American girl. She excels in school and cheerleading, and she has a handsome football-playing boyfriend, even though she isn't that crazy about him. So she's stunned when her parents decide she's gay and send her to True Directions, a boot camp meant to alter her sexual orientation. While there, Megan meets a rebellious and unashamed teen lesbian, Graham (Clea DuVall). Though Megan still feels confused, she starts to have feelings for Graham.’
If you’ve never seen this - you have missed out. If you’ve seen it before come along and watch the new Director Cut version!

Paris is Burning - SHOWING AT 8PM
is a documentary focusing on the ‘Ballroom scene’ - drag queens living in New York City and their "house" culture, which provides a sense of community and support for the flamboyant and often socially shunned performers. Groups from each house compete in elaborate balls that take cues from the world of fashion. Also touching on issues of racism and poverty, the film features interviews with a number of renowned drag queens, including Willi Ninja, Pepper LaBeija and Dorian Corey.
In 2016, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". The title takes its name from the Paris Is Burning ball held annually by artist Paris Dupree who appears in the film.

It’s very rare to find a cinema screening of Paris is Burning and if you want to find out a bit about LGBTQ+ history and culture whilst discovering the true origins of ‘Voguing’ then this is for you!

**LGBTQ+ cult classics double bill
Tickets are £4.50 per film showing You can book for one or both films. Please select from the pricing sections the number of seat(s) you want for each performance.**

Friends of Liberate Launch - be a part of transforming lives across Guernsey!

Friends of Liberate Launch - be a part of transforming lives across Guernsey!

Sep 6, 6:30pm

Old Government House Hotel and Spa

Support Liberate to help people who often have no one else to turn to. We’re sure you’re familiar with Liberate from Guernsey’s flagship Pride event in September, but do you know about the crucial work we do in the community all year round to support and improve the lives of islanders?

Every week we are contacted by the LGBTQ+ community across the Bailiwick, and their families and friends. They need information and support, because there is no one else they can talk to. We at Liberate provide this support, privately and publicly, to all who feel they need it.

Join us for an evening of drinks and canapés at the Old Government House to learn more about how you, or your business, can take an active role in supporting our charitable work and make a positive, lasting difference in our community.

Throughout the evening we will share information about this essential – yet often invisible – work, and provide you with everything you need to know about how you can impact the happiness, wellbeing and mental health of LGBTQ+ people in Guernsey.

Key note speaker for the evening, Matt Lindley:

Airline and former Royal Air Force pilot Matt Lindley talks candidly about being one of the first openly gay pilots in the UK Armed Forces. Listen to his journey of having a childhood dream to fly, almost crushed by a ban on gay serving personnel in the Forces. Matt describes how he consciously suppressed his sexuality and joined an organisation knowing that being 'out' could have resulted in a possible prison sentence (The Armed Forces Act). His story is one of self-motivation, determination, and drive.

Drinks and canapés will be served.

Date: Tuesday 6th September
Venue: Old Government House
Time: 18:30
Email: ellie@liberate.gg to book

The event it free to attend and is kindly sponsored by Ogier.

Writing competition awards night

Writing competition awards night

Sep 7, 7:00pm

Guille-Allès LibraryGuernsey, Map

This year sees the LGBTQ+ community celebrate 50 years since the first ‘Pride’ protests in the UK asking for equal rights for LGBTQ+ people. To reflect this we are asking people to write with a theme of ’50 years of Pride’. This could be fact or fiction, based on Pride or how much has changed in society in those 50 years, or any other related topic you can think of.

All the details of how to enter are here:
liberate.gg/writing-competition-2022/

The awards night is taking place on Wednesday 7th September! There will be the option to watch online for those unable to attend in person.

The aim is to educate and inform the public about the triumphs and challenges that LBGTQ+ people face – past, present and future.
If you would like to enter the competition the rules are pretty simple. Write a piece with no more than 1,000 words with an LGBTQ+ theme. Entries are open to everyone across the Channel Islands. There are two categories; an over 18’s and under 18’s so everybody can have a go, with a £100 Amazon voucher prize for the winner of both categories!
Thank you to our kind sponsor Imperium Group 🙌
