Your Safety
We want everyone to have a safe and happy Pride and we put a number of features in place to help this to happen. We would be grateful if you could take a moment to read this page.
Getting there
Please think about how you arrive at Pride. Occasionally we have had a report where a Pride goer has had a verbal insult thrown at them if they have been walking alone because of the flag they were carrying or the outfit they were wearing. We have never had any reports of anyone being assaulted or ever feeling in danger at Pride here in Guernsey but that can change.
Please do think about how you will arrive at Pride and travel in groups if possible. If you are travelling alone, it may be best to be a little more discreet if you can or if you feel any sense of danger until you reach Candie Gardens where there will be lots of others who are ‘loud and proud.’
Liberate can help put individuals in contact should you wish to form a group and avoid travelling alone.
Alcohol
Please be advised that your attendance may be refused by security should you be deemed too intoxicated upon arrival. As usual visible security teams will be present and police will be in attendance.
We have a licensed bar at Candie and at Market Square, as well as non alcohol bars all of which raised funds for Pride.
We would like to remind you that you should not bring your own alcohol in to Market Square. Sporadic bag searches may take place by security and people with alcohol will not be allowed to enter in to Pride with it.
There will be an alcohol-free zone for the first few rows at the front of the main stage in Market Square, this will be clearly zoned off. Candie Gardens and the Market Square will host an alcohol-free stall. Non-alcoholic cocktails will be available.Â
On-site bars will operate with a strict ID policy for people aged 18+ with a valid ID (e.g. Driving licence, Passport) and our security staff may ask anyone who looks under 18 and is drinking alcohol for ID. If you are drinking, please do so responsibly. Pace yourself, drink plenty of water or soft drinks between alcoholic drinks. We recommend you don’t drink on an empty stomach and make sure you eat throughout the day.
Drugs
Pride operates a Zero tolerance policy to drugs and ‘legal’ highs to ensure the safety of all attendees. In the event of discovering any drug-related activities or criminal offences, these shall be reported directly to the Police. Anyone found in the possession of illegal or illicit substances will be refused entry. Any person seen misusing substances will be removed and may be handed to police. If required, security shall detain the suspect and pass on all details to the police (including relevant details of the incident).
First Aid
There will be a First Aid station at Candie Gardens and at Market Square as well as medical staff being available to respond to any incidents. If you have any questions, please contact us.
Lost children, vulnerale adults or property
Upon arrival, parents, carers, and guardians should show their children or vulnerable adults where to go if they get lost. Designated areas for lost children will be at the Youth Commission area in the Family Zone in Market Square or the Pride merchandise stall in Candie Gardens. If you need an announcement to be made for a lost child please come to the back of the main stage and speak with one of the Liberate team. These areas are where you should go in the first instance should you realise you have lost a member of your party at CI Pride. Our team will have approved DBS (Police check) volunteers available to wait with your lost one until you are reunited. Please hand in any lost property to the Liberate/Pride merchandise stall. This will be the place to ask for your own lost property if you need to in the first instance.Â
Getting help
There are a number of people who can help you at Pride – look out for people in pink high-vis jackets with the Liberate logo or people in the Donkeycorn Crew T-Shirts (unicorn donkey hybrid). There will be blue light service respondents in attendance including the Police, St John’s Ambulance Service, and security. We will have dedicated volunteers to help with accessibility queries. If you or someone else requires help, or you notice something suspicious, please contact any of our approved personnel to report your concerns.Â
Photography and drones
Please note that filming and photography will be taking place during Channel Islands Pride event and that news media may also be present. Photographs and recordings made may be used by Channel Islands Pride, Liberate, Visit Guernsey and our partners across all digital and printed platforms to document and promote Pride. If you would prefer not to be photographed/filmed, please speak to a member of event staff or contact us at info@channelislandspride.org
There are laws surrounding the use of Drones in Guernsey: see Guernsey Airport’s Guidance or the Guernsey Drone Code Leaflet for more information. Drones are not permitted in or over Channel Islands Pride unless the appropriate professional licence and insurance as authorised by the appropriate authority is in force. There may be restrictions imposed in the use of drones over the area where a large event is taking place.
Getting home
Pride fishes at 9pm…unless you are heading to the Afterparty! Please plan ahead for leaving any of our Pride events, especially if you are planning to have a drink and cannot then drive yourself. There are buses day and night in Guernsey at weekends, see details here and check your route in advance: https://buses.gg. Please note that night services may be busy.
Taxi services are also available at the Taxi Rank in Town or these can be booked in advance to pick you up from a specific location or to ensure you secure an accessible taxi. See Visit Guernsey’s List of Taxi providers for more.Â
If anybody is concerned about walking alone at night in Town, please contact us and we can arrange a ‘walking crocodile’ to leave the Pride celebrations at a given time. Â
